The Civil Rights Race Series will be hosting the Selma to Montgomery 51 Mile Relay Race and Bike Ride to commemorate the 1965 world renowned march led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The race will start in Selma, Alabama and end at the state capitol in Montgomery, Alabama.
Each team will consist of 9 runners (all women team, all men team). Similar to a typical relay race, only one team member will be running at any given time. Once they have completed their leg they will pass the timing chip (baton) to the appropriate team member at defined exchange zone. Because the exchange zones changes, teams will be need a van to transport them. Each team has 12 hours to complete the 51 miles race.

Race Weekend Tentative Schedule
- 11:00 AM – Depart Atlanta
- 1:00 PM – Jumah in Montgomery/Lunch
- 3:00 PM – Check in Airbnb
- 5:00 PM – Packet Pickup/Meet, Greet, and Eat
- 10:00 PM – Lights Out
- 4:30 AM – Depart for Selma
- 6:30 AM – Race Start
- 6:30 PM – Race End (Exact depends on final team)
- 7:00 PM – Race After Party/Dinner
- 10:00 AM – Depart Montgomery
- 12:00 PM – Arrive in Atlanta
Registrations is open and will close when have reached our 18 person limit. (9 women and 9 men)
Teams will stay in a Airbnb in Montgomery Alabama. Airbnb are separated by gender. It is a 4.5 mile distance between Airbnb 1 & 2 (12 minute drive)

Teams are only allowed one (1) race vehicle. We will have two 12-15 passenger vans rented from Turo. We are hoping to have a dedicated driver, but if we are unable, runners will also be asked to drive. Gas is included in the fee.
Teams will go through a 12 week training program. Each member will train for the 8.6 mile run. Training starts December 27, 2021
Team members will be sent weekly training schedule to train on their own. But we will also have 3 weekly in person workout opportunities:
- Group Long Run: Sundays at 7:30 AM – Westside Beltline: Long Run
- Track Workouts: Tuesday & Thursdays – East Point Track (Location will be sent after registration)
Two weeks prior to race day, team members will receive their leg assignments. Placement will be based on runners pace, their ability to cover distance, and greatest need of the team. Below are the available legs:
- 4.3 miles
- 6.8 miles
- 8.6 miles*
- 6.5 miles*
- 5.4 miles
- 5.1 miles
- 6.2 miles
- 4.5 miles
- 3.0 miles
*Please be aware that Legs 4 and 5 are highly elevated.
Team members will be provided water, sport drinks, fruits, and granola bars during the race. Meals are NOT included. And runners should supply their own race fuel.
Teams members will receive a team shirt, but may not receive a race shirt for event organizers.
Cost is $300 ( 4 installments of $75.)
